Make Your Tires Leave A Mark In The World – Supporting the BCRF
We believe that research leads to innovation and innovation leads to change. These beliefs lead us to partner with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the leading breast cancer organization in the world since 2011. Together we launched “Mobilizing Hope”, a corporate alliance program that supports BCRF’s global research efforts to prevent and find a cure for breast cancer and that brings awareness of their work into the forefront of our industry. Through this program we have donated over USD 1 million to the foundation and funded over 21,000 hours of research.
Tires That Work For The Environment
We at Omni United have always strived to deliver outstanding qualitative and innovative products to our consumers. Over the last decade we have grown and with that, so has the impact of our activities in a globalized world. It is our role to proactively engage and influence all functions along our value chain towards sustainable mobility. We are aware of the impact of our operations and our products on the environment and we aim to reduce their negative effect progressively in collaboration with our external partners.
The World’s First Carbon Neutral Tire Brand
In 2012, we commissioned Ernst and Young to do an in-depth study on the impact of the production footprint of Radar, our flagship brand on the environment. Ernst and Young examined and quantified the amount of greenhouse gases (primarily carbon dioxide) produced from procuring raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, as well as energy used in the company’s offices and employees' travel. Based on the study recommendations, we undertook a number of changes to our business processes and actions geared to offset the carbon footprint, such as investing in projects that remove or reduce carbon dioxide from the environment. As a result, Radar Tires became the first tire brand to be 100% carbon neutral by late 2013 and we have maintained this certification to date.
Driving The Future With A Sustainable Value Chain
The future aim of our vision for sustainability is to have, over the next few years, all our products recycled at the end of their useful life. Our first project in that direction is Timberland Tires, which has been designed with sustainability in mind. These tires feature a carefully formulated rubber compound that makes it easier to be recycled. Once the tread wears out Timberland Tires are re-claimed, separated and recycled into Timberland® footwear, rather than being exported, or ending up in landfills. To establish this we have the collaboration and support of Liberty Tire, the largest tire collector and recycler in the US. Omni United aims to further its recycling efforts by engaging with specialists, educational institutions and experts to uncover new and alternative applications for which the recycled rubber can be used.
